Dolná Breznica lies on the northeastern edge of the White Carpathians. At the same time, the village is situated in a narrow, relatively small basin on the southeastern edge of the isolated Kobyliniec massif. Most of the cadastral area extends across steep slopes and highly dissected hills.

History and Culture

The history of the village is reflected in several distinctive details. Dolná Breznica has an old, simple wooden belfry with a bell in a Y-shaped frame. The old mill was already in existence in 1720 and remained in operation until 1952. The Church of Saint Paul was consecrated on 11 July 2004. Its entrance is adorned by an 18-metre-high covered tower; inside are attributes of the saint, including a book and a sword. The name of the village also dates back a long way: in the first written record from 1388, the settlements are mentioned under the name posessio BREZNYCZE.

Nature

Cycle route 5307 passes through Dolná Breznica and then continues into the forest. Sheep farming and sheep grazing are also part of the village’s historical development.

Festivals

The Hodové slávnosti in Dolná Breznica take place annually over a weekend around the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Local hunters prepare goulash for the occasion. The Saturday programme of the Hodové slávnosti includes performances, as well as dancing and singing at the cultural centre. The Maypole-raising ceremony includes a procession and music.

At the Children’s Day event on 29 May 2026, there were trampoline activities, pony rides and a programme by Prplošom. At a Children’s Day event in Dolná Breznica, there were competitions, children’s face painting, pony rides, a bouncy castle, cotton candy and a foam party.
