Holiday apartment in Radobica – Nature and culture at the transition between the Tríbeč and Vtáčnik Mountains

Radobica is located in the northeastern part of the Tríbeč Mountains, at the transition to the Vtáčnik Mountains. At the same time, the village lies in a side valley of the Hornejský potok stream. Radobica therefore combines a distinctive mountain setting with wooded landscapes, an educational trail and special reminders of the village’s history.

Location and landscape

The cadastral area of Radobica lies within the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Ponitrie). The landscape around Radobica is characterized mainly by oak-hornbeam forests and beech forests, interspersed with firs, spruces and pines. A special place within the village is Hôrka Park: it is located on Hôrka Hill above the church in Radobica.

Nature

Hôrka Park has a rest area offering beautiful views of Radobica and the surrounding wooded natural landscape. It is also home to a five-metre-long attraction called “Rebrík do neba” (“Ladder to Heaven”). The “Radobický náučný chodníček” educational trail informs visitors about interesting places in Radobica and offers walks through a pleasant mountain landscape. The trail includes newly built covered seating shelters.

Hruštička Park is used for various leisure activities. A bicycle rack was installed there in 2023.

Culture

The Church of the Divine Heart of Jesus (“Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho”) is the only cultural monument in Radobica. It was built between 1949 and 1969, initially as a chapel, and was later enlarged and converted into a church by the local residents. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the courtyard in front of the church.

A chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands at Cerová. It is located 2.5 km from Radobica and was built after 1945 by local resident Ján Tomáš, out of gratitude for his return from Italian captivity during the Second World War.

Another historical trace leads to the water mill in Cerová. It was built in 1820 for the entire municipality of Radobica. During a reconstruction, it was fitted with a modern Francis turbine and new grain-processing machinery; the turbine was manufactured in the Czech Republic. Along the road to Cerová, the stone foundations of the former water mill and the remains of the watercourse are visible.
