Holiday apartment in Podkylava: cycling routes, Pávičie and rural culture
Podkylava can be explored through several thematic aspects: landscape, trails, agriculture and local history all come together here.
Nature
Before human settlement, the area around Podkylava in the Myjavská pahorkatina hills was forested. As settlement progressed, this began to change. The present-day landscape includes the Pávičie viewpoint, which is designated in Podkylava as an existing recreational area with development potential.
Cycling and trails
A completed educational trail leads from the road behind the cemetery to the Pávičie viewpoint and runs parallel to the local cycling route. The yellow-marked local cycling route MC01 also leads from the road behind the cemetery to the Pávičie viewpoint and is approximately 600 metres long. For a longer connection, there is the green-marked C5325 cycling route: it runs between Podkylava, Polianka and Sládkovci and is 7.8 kilometres long. The blue-marked C2302 cycling route leads from Plavecký Peter via Jablonica to Hrachovište and is 45 kilometres long in total.
The further development of cycling infrastructure is also connected with Podkylava. As part of a cross-border project, two bicycle shelters are planned to serve residents and visitors on both sides of the border.
Agriculture
A special connection with rural life is provided by Biofarma Charolais, an agrotourism facility in Podkylava. It combines organic cattle farming with horse keeping, as well as agrotourism and recreation, and offers horse riding. Biofarma Charolais also includes a gallery of historic agricultural machinery. At the annual opening of the grazing season, visitors can familiarise themselves with life on a farm.
History
The oldest written reference to Podkylava dates back to 1709. The historic settlement of Podkylava consists of two parts: Podkylava and Zbehy. Until the middle of the 20th century, women in Podkylava practised the demanding craft of making valuable lace using bobbins. Several original houses have been preserved, including 19th-century earthen houses, some of which still have thatched roofs.
Culture
Podkylava’s cultural calendar includes a Fašiangový carnival and a Fašiangové posedenie in February. In October, the Podkylavské zeleninové slávnosti are among the local events.
