Kostolné: Holiday apartment between mountains, hiking trails and culture

Kostolné lies between two mountain ranges and combines a distinctive landscape with traces of regional history. The Kostolník stream flows through the village, with its upper course reaching the two Dubník I and Dubník II water reservoirs. The Hrubá skala natural formation is also part of the surrounding area: it lies on the boundary between the municipal territories of Kostolné and Hrašné.

Nature

Numerous hiking trails run through the cadastral area of Kostolné, leading to Veľká Javorina. The network of trails therefore extends from the village towards a distinctive mountain destination. The landscape can also be explored by bicycle. Kostolné has a cycling route beneath Javorina that connects Vaďovce and Stará Turá. A short yellow cycling loop also connects the Dubník recreational centre with Kostolné.

The two Dubník I and Dubník II recreational centres offer opportunities for summer and winter sports. A detailed tourist map is available for the surrounding area. Alongside the named trails and water facilities, it provides a separate means of orientation for the wider surroundings of Kostolné.

Culture

The Evangelical church stands in the centre of Kostolné and is a landmark of the municipality dating from 1785. The foundation stone was laid on 3 May 1784; the church tower was added in 1802. Its construction history thus comprises three clearly dated stages that place the present-day church building in its historical context.

The older past is represented by a Lusatian culture cremation burial site from the Late Bronze Age, located in Kostolné. The Pamätný dom is a place connected with the history of the municipality. It originated from a long-uninhabited, dilapidated house and preserves its traditional character.

Hrubá skala also has a historical connection: In 1848–1849, the natural formation was a meeting place for pastor Trokan, J. M. Hurban and Ľudovít Štúr. The so-called Lubina folk costume style was also worn in Kostolné, while the Myjava folk costume style was widespread in the Kopanice region.
