Holiday apartment in Brestovec: nature trail, Kopanice and White Carpathian forests

Brestovec combines several clearly distinguishable facets: the Kopanice landscape around the village retains its traditional character, White Carpathian forests shape the cadastral area to the north, and paths lead to natural and cultural features. In addition, there are preserved folk buildings, a technical monument, events throughout the year and a railway station on the Nové Mesto nad Váhom–Veľká nad Veličkou railway line.

Exploring the landscape

The Brestovec–Stará Myjava–Topolecká nature trail is 18.298 km long. It includes nine information stations focusing on the natural wealth and the fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills and the CHKO Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The route therefore combines its path with information about the landscape and its habitats.

In addition, the blue cycling route Brestovec–Stará Myjava runs for approximately 15 km through the Kopanice and offers views of the surrounding countryside. The Kopanice landscape around Brestovec consists of scattered settlements, meadows and forests and has retained its traditional character. The route continues on the Czech side into the Filipovské Valley.

Nature

The northern part of Brestovec’s cadastral area is covered by White Carpathian forests. These forests provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and are used for tourism and recreation. The Poľana observation tower was removed on 17 August 2022.

Southeast of Brestovec lies the reservoir on the Myjava River, which features extensive preserved woodland. The reservoir is part of the Rieka Myjava natural monument.

Culture and history

Several original folk residential and farm buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in Brestovec. The Tunel generála Štefánika provides a different historical accent: it is a technical monument dating from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic.

The M. R. Štefánik Tunnel in the cadastral area of Brestovec is 2,987 metres long. There is a memorial plaque at the entrance commemorating the people who died during the construction of the tunnel.
