Holiday apartment in Hubová: nature trail, culture and Veľká Fatra

Hubová is located in the Veľká Fatra mountains and combines marked trails with notable buildings and traces of history. Particularly characteristic is the “Hubovský okruh”: the 11 km-long nature trail is located within the cadastral area of the municipality and was created in 2017 by the Turistický oddiel Tramp Hubová hiking club. Its content ranges from natural history and historical topics to cultural interpretation. As a result, the landscape, local history and culture do not exist side by side, but meet along a named route.

Nature and trails

The network of routes in the cadastral area of Hubová also includes three marked cycle routes with a total length of 15 km. The Černová–Bystrá dolina route is one of them, measuring 5.8 km. The different lengths make the extent of the cycling options just as tangible as the routes’ individual markings. In the case of the “Hubovský okruh”, however, the focus is on connecting several levels of interpretation: natural history, history and culture are addressed together along the 11 km-long route.

The landscape viewpoints along the village are also part of this interplay between trail and vista. From the cemetery cross “Kríž na cintoríne”, there is a view of Veľký Smrekovec, Ostré, Havran, Kopa, Kečka and Kútnikov kopec. Hubová and Švošov are also visible. The view thus connects named mountain and terrain features with the two villages in the field of vision.

Culture

Hubová is home to the church “Kostol Povýšenia Svätého Kríža”. The church is a national cultural monument and is decorated with murals by Jozef Hanula from 1905. Its monument status, the artist’s name and the year are just as much part of its classification as its visible connection to local cultural history.

Another example of rural architectural heritage is the Sýpky. These are two traditional grain stores dating from the late 19th century. Both are built as two-room log structures on stone foundations. Their architectural form includes shingle-covered gabled roofs and a high podlomenica. The material, floor plan and roof shape give the group of granaries its clearly recognisable historical appearance.

Historical traces

Ruins of an ironworks can be found in the Bystrá dolina in Hubová. They point to the blacksmithing tradition that left traces in this small valley. The site thus represents another historical reference within the municipality: alongside ecclesiastical furnishings and rural granary buildings, the industrial past is also part of Hubová’s inherited history.

Location and views

The Sýpky are located on the western edge of Hubová, on a slope below a wooded hill and next to the main road. The “Hubovský okruh” nature trail and a yellow-marked hiking trail pass directly by the group of granaries. The location description therefore includes the western edge of the settlement, the sloping site, the wooded hill and the two trails that run alongside the historic buildings.

The “Zastavenie v Sedle Poľana” station is located on mountain meadows above Hubová. The hiking signpost “Sedlo Poľana” is given as the trail reference. The mountain meadows, the location above the village and the specific signpost characterise this further point in the surroundings of Hubová.

Several clearly named elements therefore come together in Hubová: the nature trail with its natural-historical, historical and cultural interpretation, marked cycle routes, the church as a national cultural monument, the Sýpky as traditional grain stores and the ruins of the ironworks in the Bystrá dolina.
