Liptovský Mikuláš combines cultural history, art, exercise and nature. The offerings range from historical architectural and exhibition topics to a nature trail and an interactive tour with a focus on nature and caves.
Culture
The synagogue in Liptovský Mikuláš was built between 1842 and 1846 as a single-storey Neoclassical building and took on its present form following a reconstruction in 1906. It has been open to the public since 1991 and houses an exhibition on the history of the local Jewish community. The Mosty-Gesharim concert also takes place in the synagogue every year.
Since its foundation in 1955, the Múzeum Janka Kráľa has documented the history of Liptovský Mikuláš and made it accessible to the public. Liptovská galéria Petra Michala Bohúňa focuses on art. It is the third-oldest gallery in Slovakia and manages more than 5,500 works. The “Pôvod maľby” exhibition presents paintings, icons and sculptures from the 15th to the 19th century.
The gallery also offers the “Hviezdy galérie” project. It provides educational activities for children, school students and adults, which can be completed individually and without prior reservation.
Active pursuits
The Háj Flow singletrack in Lesopark Háj-Nicovô is the first official singletrack in Liptovský Mikuláš. It is approximately 800 metres long and has an elevation difference of 100 metres.
The Háj Flow singletrack is suitable for children as well as experienced trail riders. The ascent follows the official paved Generála P. Kunu road. The start is at the end of the meadow near the war memorial and is marked by a wooden gate and information boards.
The “Príroda a krajina okolo nás” nature trail is 1.3 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 140 metres. Information boards and picnic areas are located along the route.
The Slovenské múzeum ochrany prírody a jaskyniarstva offers an interactive tour. During the tour, visitors look into a bear cave, hear sounds of nature and animals, and can try crawling through a cave.
