History

Pavlova Ves was established in 1400. By 1469 at the latest, the village belonged to the estate of Liptov Castle. Around 1600, approximately ten houses were recorded, as well as a mill and a manorial farm. The historical information thus combines an early date of establishment with an important connection to the estate and a specific description of the village at that time.

The history also includes the original church of Pavlova Ves, referred to as the “Kaplnka”. It was built in 1932 under parish priest Serafín Rončák. Inside, Mikuláš Štalmach painted the ceiling images of the twelve Apostles and the altarpiece of Saints Peter and Paul. On 8 November 1997, the church was consecrated by Mons. Andrej Imrich, Auxiliary Bishop of Spiš.

Landscape and nature

Geographically, Pavlova Ves is located in the Liptov Basin and near the Western Tatras. The cadastral area of Pavlova Ves lies within the Tatry Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. Pavlova Ves also borders the Tatralandia Aquapark. Its basin location, proximity to the mountains, connection to the protected area and adjacent leisure facility are each independent geographical details.

Rural life

Another aspect of the village is its historical rural way of life. In Pavlova Ves, this included grazing cattle and horses high in the mountains during the summer. This took place, among other areas, at the wooden troughs in Žleby behind Babky. The name of this place behind Babky is just as much part of this tradition as the connection between animal husbandry, the season and mountain pastures.

Cuisine

The dishes also include distinctive local names and preparation methods. Koch was a particular speciality of Pavlovecká cuisine and was prepared with mutton tallow. Palovecké hrčky are considered a well-known local speciality of Pavlova Ves. Bryndza was also regarded as a special delicacy in Pavlova Ves in the past. Thus, alongside one specific preparation method, there are two further culinary terms with their own local connection.

Cycling

The “Veľký okruh okolo Liptovskej Mary” cycling route passes through Pavlova Ves. It is a challenging, 58-kilometre MTB circular route. The full route name refers to Liptovská Mara, while the route’s length, format and difficulty further define its character.

Transport

The transport connection is also specifically named. Regional bus route 528 connects Liptovský Mikuláš via Bobrovec and Jalovec with Pavlova Ves, Liptovské Behárovce and Bobrovček.
