Holiday apartment in Lazisko: Hiking, cycling and history

Lazisko is located in the southern part of the Liptovská kotlina Basin and extends along the right bank of the Paludžanka River. At the same time, the village lies within the buffer zone of the “Národný park Nízkych Tatier” National Park. This geographical setting combines the basin landscape, riverbank and protected natural area of the Low Tatras in a clearly defined profile of the village.

Nature and location

Hiking trails lead from Lazisko to Hradisko. Remains of the Púchov culture have been preserved there. Another particularly scenic route in Lazisko is the ascent to Siná. Both details connect the immediate surroundings of the village with different forms of exploration: the trails to Hradisko focus on archaeological traces, while the route to Siná is described as an ascent.

History and culture

The oldest written mention of Lazisko dates back to 1396. The village’s historic structures include a historically significant bell tower with a bell dating from 1930. The bell tower stands in its original location directly next to the municipal office. The cultural landscape also includes the wooden articulated evangelical church, which is one of the largest wooden structures in Central Europe.

The southern edge of Lazisko was used by subjects from Črmnô as kopanice settlements. This designation refers to a particular historical use of the southern edge of the village and adds another aspect of local history to the written mention, bell tower and church.

Traditions

Today, a central maypole is erected in Lazisko and dedicated to all the girls and women of the municipality. The maypoles are erected in Lazisko at Pentecost. The tradition is thus defined both by its present-day significance within the municipality and by its timing at Pentecost.

Routes

The “Around Liptovska Mara” cycling route is a 58 km circular tour for mountain bikes. It passes through Lazisko and is mainly suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. The route through the village is therefore part of an explicitly named circular tour whose length and orientation are fixed. As a circular tour, the route is characterized by its closed course; the 58 km figure describes its total length. In addition to this cycling route, the village’s offerings also include the Lazisko–Pavčina Lehota–Žiarce circuit. This is a cross-country skiing trail.

The cross-country skiing circuit runs through meadows with beautiful views above Lazisko. The route is thus described as a circuit passing through meadows and offering views from above the village. Cycling and cross-country skiing are part of the village profile alongside the hiking trails to Hradisko and the ascent to Siná.
