The building of the Základná škola Milana Rúfusa originated as the former Evangelical primary school. It was built in 1865, extended upwards in 1911 and expanded in 1967. The associated bell tower is 42 metres high, was built in the Neo-Romanesque-Gothic style and dates from 1911.

History

The Stopy predkov na Veratíne educational trail is an easy circular route approximately 4.6 kilometres long. It starts at the car park below Ski Opalisko; with children, the route takes approximately two to three hours. The stated length and duration classify the circular route as a clearly time-limited hike. The trail leads to Celtic fortifications on Veratín, which stands 882 metres high. These fortifications stood there more than 2,000 years ago. Along the educational trail, five information panels explain the history of the Celtic fortifications as well as the local fauna and flora.

Activities

The Školská včelnica in Závažná Poruba includes a children’s educational trail. Guided tours with expert explanations are offered there, along with demonstrations of real beekeeping equipment. Another area for activities is located above Závažná Poruba: the Ski Opalisko ski resort has cross-country and downhill slopes. The ski resort has drag lifts and a chairlift.

Ski Opalisko also offers rental and servicing for ski equipment, snowboards, mountain bikes and other sports equipment. The sports facilities at the Areál telesného pohybu Mateja Staroňa, known as AtpMS for short, include a children’s playground and other sporting opportunities. They are open to the general public in summer and winter.
