Liptovské Kľačany: Holiday Apartment, Nature and Hiking Trails

Liptovské Kľačany lies at the entrance to the Kľačianska Valley. The educational cycling tourism route N2401 – Vlkolínec – Pribylina passes through the village. There is also a junction of cycling tourism routes at the entrance to the village. The village’s location by the valley and the designated cycling connections are thus presented side by side right from the start.

Nature

The Nízke Tatry Natura 2000 site includes the cadastral area of Liptovské Kľačany. The Nízke Tatry protected area is characterised by predominantly coniferous-forest habitats supplemented by meadows and pastures. Most of Liptovské Kľačany lies below the summit of Chabenec, within the protected area of the Low Tatras National Park. The protected area is also home to forest bird species such as the golden eagle, black grouse, capercaillie, three-toed woodpecker, boreal owl, pygmy owl and hazel grouse. The landscape is therefore described in the local information both through its protected habitats and through its location below Chabenec.

Hiking and Cycling Tourism

A hiking trail leads from the Kľačianska Valley to Magurka. From Tajch, a marked trail leads via Magurka to the Latiborská hoľa saddle. Another marked connection begins at the Železnô settlement, runs via Magurka and the 1,520-metre-high Mestská hora mountain, and leads to the main ridge below Malý Chabenec. The trail information therefore names specific starting points, intermediate destinations and elevations without combining the individual sections into a single route. At the same time, it shows different landscape sections: the valley, settlement, mountain and main ridge are each named in separate connections. Magurka appears as a common name in several trail descriptions, while Latiborská hoľa, Mestská hora and Malý Chabenec each serve as distinct reference points.

The forests around Liptovské Kľačany also offer numerous easy walks. Visitors can hike through the Kľačianska Valley. An ascent via Brestovec leads to Ľupčianska Magura at an elevation of 1,315 metres. In addition to the marked trails via Magurka and the Latiborská hoľa saddle, the valley itself is therefore also highlighted as a named hiking area.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Elisabeth was built in the Historicist style between 1878 and 1889. The present-day church stands on the site of a Gothic church dating from 1339. The church contains two Baroque paintings from the mid-18th century and a late Baroque tabernacle with cherubim. The construction period, the older predecessor building and the preserved furnishings are therefore among the explicitly mentioned historical features of the church.

The Church of Saint Elisabeth became a significant factor shaping the settlement. In Liptovské Kľačany, the Church of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary is also listed with a time of 10:30. Visible remains of partisan bunkers can still be found in the Kľačianska Valley, meaning that, alongside the church’s history, a historical site of testimony in the valley is also mentioned.
