Discover Bobrovec: Holiday Apartment, Nature and Hiking Trails

The 1,805 m-high Sivý vrch, part of the Western Tatras, can be reached from Bobrovec; the hike offers views of Liptov and Orava.

Outdoor activities

The “Babky z Bobrovca” route is classified as an alpine hike, ridge hike and educational trail. Its name therefore combines three different characteristics of the same route: its alpine character, its course along a ridge and the provision of information along an educational trail. At the starting point of the hike to Sivý vrch in Bobrovecká vápenica, there is a free car park with sufficient capacity. This car park is also the starting point of the “Babky z Bobrovca” ski touring route. The starting point therefore brings together the start of the hike to Sivý vrch and the beginning of the aforementioned ski touring route at the same location.

A cycling route also passes through Bobrovec: it runs from Trstené via Bobrovec and Jalovec to the Bobrovecká Vápenica junction and leads through Bobrovec to this junction. In its sequence, the route thus names Trstené as the direction of departure, Bobrovec and Jalovec as the places it passes through, and the Bobrovecká Vápenica junction as another reference point.

Nature

The valley in which Bobrovec stretches was formed by the Jalovec stream. The Jalovecká dolina valley contains an almost complete example of the flora and fauna of the Tatra National Park. The rare plant klinček lesklý also grows there. It occurs only in Slovakia, is considered a West Carpathian palaeoendemic and already existed in the Tertiary period. The nature-related information thus connects the formation of the valley by the Jalovec with the present-day diversity of its flora and fauna, as well as with a plant whose history dates back to the Tertiary period.

The Jalovecká dolina valley and the valley formed by the Jalovec therefore represent two explicitly named landscape features: the stream as the formative element of the valley and the rare flora within the almost complete example of the Tatra National Park’s natural environment.

History and culture

The village itself also contains concrete traces of history. The carpenters’ guild in Bobrovec left behind the St. Joseph Column. The Church of St. George has a bell from 1527 in its tower. The year makes the bell a precisely dated testimony within the local and ecclesiastical history mentioned.

The Church of St. George also houses two paintings of Saint George, including one depicting him on horseback. The column, bell and two depictions are among Bobrovec’s named cultural features, each preserving its own connection to the local and ecclesiastical history.

Regional specialities

Traditional sheep’s milk specialities are produced at Salaš Pastierska and sold in the koliba there. These include fresh and smoked sheep’s cheese, sheep’s bryndza and Žinčica. Children can also ride ponies at Salaš Pastierska.

This means that the production and sale of several sheep’s milk products and pony rides for children are available side by side at this location, without requiring any additional offerings.
