Hybe combines a historic townscape with winter sports, hiking tourism and a marked cycling route. Particularly characteristic is the rural heritage zone, where historic, social, landscape, urban-planning, architectural and arts-and-crafts values are preserved. The entire historic centre of Hybe is designated as a heritage zone.
Culture and townscape
The history of the town dates back to the 13th century: Hybe was established at that time as a royal town in the valley of the Hybica stream, at a crossroads of trade routes from Liptov to Spiš. The layout of the town centre also reflects this development. The heritage zone follows a regular colonisation structure along the Hybica stream; streets branch off from the corners of the rectangular square. The Hybica stream and its tributary shape the surroundings of the Hybe heritage zone.
The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints stands in a central location on Hybe’s square and is a prominent sacred building. The Evangelical church is located north-east of the square, built on the site of a wooden Articular church. There is also a statue of Pacho, the bandit of Hybe, on the square beside the main road.
Memorial sites
Several registered memorial sites complement the historic townscape. The Dobroslav Chrobák Memorial House is listed in the heritage register of Hybe. The Jakub Grajchman Poet’s Memorial House, with a memorial plaque, is registered as a monument in Hybe. The grave of Jakub Grajchman, with its tombstone, is also registered as a monument. The Alojz Štróbl Memorial House is registered as a cultural monument in Hybe.
Winter and hiking tourism
Hybe has a ski lift for winter sports. Certified cross-country skiing trails are also available in Hybe. The local hiking tourism options include the Hybská tiesňava gorge. This means that different forms of winter and hiking activities are available side by side in the town, without the historic sights disappearing from the townscape.
Cycling route to the Čierny Váh Reservoir
Hybe is also a starting point for cyclists: the green cycling tour route to the Čierny Váh Reservoir begins near the municipality of Hybe. The route between Hybe and the Čierny Váh Reservoir is suitable for MTB bikes and runs along paved paths, forest tracks and asphalt roads.
A holiday apartment in Hybe can be considered separately from sightseeing and activities in the town. For their personal selection, travellers can determine whether the focus is on the historic townscape, winter sports, hiking tourism or the cycling tour route. These themes represent different daily rhythms; information about the specific accommodation remains separate from them. This allows the accommodation decision to fit into the traveller’s own itinerary without mixing the character of the heritage zone with accommodation features. The desired balance between culture and physical activity also remains clearly identifiable.
Stops in Hybe
The regional integrated transport system lists the stops “Hybe, nám.” and “Hybe, otoč.”; bus routes 510 and 514 operate there.
