Ižipovce is located in the central part of the Liptov Basin below the Choč Mountains at an elevation of 598 m. Directly above the village is Jaskyňa nad Ižipovcami, a 20 m-long limestone cave. Nature, striking landscape formations and various hiking destinations are found here in a closely interconnected setting.

Geographical location

The cadastral territory of Ižipovce includes the Prosečné Site of European Importance. This designation refers to a landscape area shaped by distinctive geological formations that plays an important role in the surroundings of the village.

Nature

The Prosečné protected area has a limestone and dolomite substratum as well as a typical cliff-like relief. Characteristic natural features include the deep gorges of the Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys. The landscape thus combines different forms: rocky substratum, cliffs and deeply incised valley areas.

Jaskyňa nad Ižipovcami is located in the cadastral territory of Ižipovce and is a fluviokarst cave with archaeological finds. Its low entrance measures 40 × 60 cm. After approximately 2 m of crawling, it leads into an oval-shaped chamber. The cave is therefore characterized not only by its location directly above the village, but also by its geological form and archaeological finds.

Hiking

A circular hike to Jánošíkov stôl (Čerenová skala) begins in Liptovská Anna. It is considered an easy alpine hike, is 8 km long and includes 459 m of ascent and 459 m of descent. The stated duration is 3 hours. The ascent to Jánošíkov stôl is considered relatively steep; occasional views of Liptovská Mara can be enjoyed through the trees.

Another signposted route is the 4.294 m-long hiking trail Janošíkov stôl, which passes through Ižipovce. The Prosiecka Valley can also be reached on foot from Ižipovce. The Prosiecka Valley itself is also located near Ižipovce, while the Liptovská Mara reservoir is likewise close to the village.

The route through the Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys leads from Prosiek to Kvačany and takes six hours. On this route, more difficult sections in the lower and upper parts of the Prosiecka Valley are negotiated with the aid of technical equipment. The information therefore distinguishes between an easier alpine circular hike, a route passing through Ižipovce and the longer connection through two valley areas.

Water

In the surroundings of Ižipovce, Liptovská Mara offers opportunities for swimming, paddleboarding and boat trips. Alongside the gorges and hiking trails, the reservoir is therefore also one of the recreational areas mentioned around the village.

History

Historical occupations and crafts in Ižipovce included agriculture, cloth weaving, blacksmithing, carpentry and the production of handričkové korovce. These activities add an insight into earlier working and craft traditions to the present-day image of the village.
