Kováčovce: Holiday Apartments Between Nature and Culture

The Hradište Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Kováčovce. The protected features include Pannonian grassland and herb communities on loess. The area was designated for protection in 1999 because of several thermophilous, steppe-related, protected and endangered plant and animal species. Protected and endangered species found there include the tree-like bladder senna (Colutea arborescens), yellow bluestem (Chrysopogon gryllus), Austrian flax (Linum austriacum), the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), the European green lizard (Lacerta viridis) and the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa).

Culture and History

The history of the village is also reflected in several specific monuments. Kováčovce is home to a Rococo-Classical manor house from the 18th century, which was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Church of the Blessed Mother depicts the Nativity of the Virgin Mary: the child is surrounded by Saint Anne and Joachim and welcomed by angels. A memorial plaque to Fraňo Kráľ, erected in 2005, is located on the community centre.

The ruins of the “Dräxlerov valcový mlyn” roller mill are located on the Ipeľ River immediately on the Hungarian border near Pösténypuszta. They are considered to be the ruins of a roller mill.

Activities

The Kováčovce Equestrian Club has an equestrian area with stables, a sand-surfaced training course and a grass paddock. The club has already hosted 23 successful editions of the Ipeľský pohár horse-riding competition, with riders participating from across the country. The XXXIII edition of the Ipeľský pohár horse-riding competition took place on 4 June 2022 in Kováčovce; the organiser was JO Kováčovce.

The Kováčovce Equestrian Club also welcomes preschool and school-age children on excursions. During these excursions, they can learn about the breeding, care and training of horses.

Agriculture and Viticulture

Agriculture, vegetable growing and viticulture were practised in Kováčovce. Viticulture remained the main occupation until the present day.
