Horné Plachtince has a designated heritage zone. To this day, it preserves the plot structure shown in maps from the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The protected area contains stone houses whose roofs, originally thatched with straw, were supported by wooden or masonry columns. Another notable historic feature is the wooden bell tower behind the municipal office, dating from 1737.

The Lutheran church in Horné Plachtince retains its interior furnishings from the time of its construction; its bell bears the date 9 September 1737. In addition, folk houses at house numbers 57 and 74 in Horné Plachtince are listed under heritage numbers 1682 and 11240. The Bažalička folklore group performs songs and dances at cultural events in Horné Plachtince and the surrounding area. Bažalička is dedicated to preserving family and seasonal traditions of eastern Hont, particularly in Príbelce and Plachtince.

Nature and educational trails

Pohanský vrch is classified as a genofond-significant locality for flora and fauna. The Pohanský vrch educational trail begins near Horné Plachtince, above the confluence of the Suchánsky potok and the Plachtinský potok. From there, it leads over the slopes of the southern spur of Pohanský vrch and around its summit before returning to the starting point.

The circular route is 3.6 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 260 metres. It is self-guided, designed as a circular route, accessible in both directions, a walking trail and usable year-round. In terms of content, the educational trail combines natural science, geological, palaeontological and cultural-historical interpretation. The educational trail can be reached by bus as far as Horné Plachtince; from there, access continues on foot for 1.7 kilometres along a local road northwards into the valley of the Plachtinský potok.

Another educational trail in the valley of the Suchánsky potok leads to Trúbiaci kameň. This is a rock formation with two openings through which air currents produce a whistling sound.
