Holiday apartment in Chrťany – village culture and vineyards
Chrťany lies at the transition between the Krupinská výšina and the Ipeľská kotlina, in a flat valley of the Chrtiansky potok stream. The treeless landscape consists of flat ridges made of andesitic tuffites, crossed by valleys.
Landscape
The flat ridges and the valleys between them shape the landscape around Chrťany. The regional bus operator lists the stops “Chrťany, Jazero” and “Chrťany, Jazero rázc.”. The landscape and the named stops represent different descriptions of the place: while the former records its geological and spatial character, the two stops refer to the regional bus connection.
Culture
Several masonry houses from the 19th century, with extensive cellar areas, have been preserved in Chrťany. The traditional houses from this period have wooden and masonry posts that extend the roof overhang. In the courtyards there are masonry granaries with wooden posts. In the vineyards of Chrťany, cellars are located in the slopes; their entrances are built of stone. The preserved buildings therefore include residential houses, granaries and cellars built into the slopes, each with different architectural details.
The bell tower in Chrťany was part of the former church and later municipal school. The old wooden school in Chrťany burned down and, after its reconstruction, serves as a house of prayer.
History
Iron ore was mined in Chrťany in the 18th century. The mining of iron ore is therefore expressly documented for the 18th century; the information about wedding customs, on the other hand, refers to the period up to the middle of the 20th century. The history of the village thus encompasses both the earlier mining of iron ore and preserved structural elements and buildings with different historical functions.

Customs
The traditional wedding customs of Chrťany include the Radostník. The wedding cake was shaped like a child and decorated with colored paper ribbons, branches and candles.
Until the middle of the 20th century, walnuts and iron objects were placed in the heads of a yoke as part of the wedding customs of Chrťany. This yoke was placed beneath the headrest of the newlyweds and symbolized a firm bond.
Also until the middle of the 20th century, the bride received a clove of garlic before going to church so that she would have only one child.
