Holiday Apartment in Kamenné Kosihy – Church, History and Hilly Landscape

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin was built in 1824 in the Classicist style. It stands on a hill in the town center on the main road and combines a clearly visible location with distinctive historical details. The church contains a large altarpiece depicting its patron saint, St. Martin. The painting measures 2 m × 3 m. To commemorate a Keszi gathering, the municipality also erected a memorial plaque in 2005.

Culture

The history of Kamenné Kosihy can be traced back to 1135 in written sources: since then, the settlement has been documented as property of the monastery in Bzovík. The historic appearance of the village includes farmhouses from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, preserved together with their outbuildings. The former manor house of the Lipcsei landowning family is also part of the village’s past. It stood next to today’s cultural center. The old, well-preserved parish house still stands today.

Landscape

Kamenné Kosihy lies in a flat valley of the Studienka stream. The municipality’s territory comprises unforested hilly land with flat, dissected ridges. The surface of the municipality’s territory is also part of the area’s geological history: it consists of deposits from the younger Tertiary period.

Memorial Sites

Several memorial sites complement the historical picture. A white marble slab marks the grave of Lipcsey Sándor. The New Cemetery, established in the northwestern part of the municipality, has a central cross. A black marble obelisk dedicated to the priest Fodor Jenő (1867–1927) stands in the new, or upper, cemetery. The obelisk is decorated with a cross, a chalice, a book, a stole, a depiction of Christ’s head and floral motifs.

Local Life

The residents of Kamenné Kosihy worked in agriculture, viticulture and fruit growing. These three areas form part of the traditional economic and local history. A contemporary event is the palóckych jedál festival: it took place in Kamenné Kosihy on 20 July 2024 and is considered traditional. Competitors from Hungary also took part.

Faith and Events

All-day adoration is scheduled to take place on 26 April at the Church of St. Martin in Kamenné Kosihy. Alongside the church building and its memorial features, this also introduces a specific religious event whose scheduled status remains unchanged.
