Vinica’s connection with viticulture goes back a long way. Records from 1135 are considered the oldest evidence both of Vinica’s settlement and of viticulture there. A document from the same year records that Lampert and his wife Žofia donated their property in the town to Bzovík Monastery. Vinica was formerly called Nekyje and is also one of the oldest villages in the Hont region.

Today, vineyards and local events continue to shape the area’s diverse attractions. Around 500 wine cellars are located in the Žobrák locality in Vinica. Hiking on the Náučný chodník Stráž Educational Trail

The Náučný chodník Stráž educational trail follows a circular route through Vinica and connects Žobrák, Žabí prameň, the Stráž lookout tower, the southern slope of Porgy, and Biela studňa. The route is 7.3 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 250 metres, and takes 3.5 hours to walk. This provides a clearly defined way to connect several landscape and viewpoints in a single day of hiking.

The wooden Stráž lookout tower dates from 2013. Beneath the tower are small pseudokarst caves in fractured andesite and andesite breccias. Alongside the viewpoint, these geological features provide another specific focus for the hike. The stated access route to the educational trail is by bus to the stop near the Vinica Cultural Centre, followed by approximately 300 metres westwards along Nekyjská Street.
