Holiday Apartment in Blhovce: Nature, Hiking Trails and Geopark

Blhovce offers interesting and easy walks into the surrounding countryside. The village lies on the left bank of the Gortva stream. The landscape, paths, cycling route and historic cultural landmarks give the village several distinct features.

Nature

The Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area includes the cadastral territory of Blhovce. Blhovce belongs to the Slovak part of the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark, which bears the designation UNESCO Global Geopark. The volcanic structures of the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark can be used for educational purposes by a broad group of visitors.

Paths and routes

For navigation on the trails, map TM 141 “Cerová vrchovina – Lučenec” is available from the Blhovce municipal office. The hiking map contains GPS-compatible hiking routes. The hiking times were updated in cooperation with the Club of Slovak Tourists. This brings the map name, GPS compatibility and revised time estimates together in a clearly identified map publication.

The Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area has 9 marked hiking trails, 4 educational trails and 3 educational sites. The three types of routes include both marked stretches and educational offerings within the same protected landscape area.

Blhovce is also connected to a regional cycling route. It runs from Hajnáčka via Blhovce and Hodejov to Jesenské. From Jesenské, the cycling route continues towards Hostice and, before Hostice, to Gemerské Dechtáre. The final section then runs below Ragáč through a Cerová forest back to Hajnáčka. The route description therefore identifies the starting point, the individual intermediate locations and the return via the forest section at Ragáč.

Culture

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the centre of Blhovce. It dates from 1901. Blhovce is also home to the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, a late Baroque church built from 1773 to 1777. It was extended in 1936.
