Holiday apartment in Bátka – Church, History and Cycling Route

The 18th-century Reformed Church is a local landmark in Bátka. The originally Classicist sacred building was first mentioned as early as 1808 and was rebuilt in 1908. Its façade features a tower highlighted in the manner of a risalit, with a pyramid roof, semicircular-headed windows and pilaster articulation. The church is in very good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

History

The original settlement of Bátka on the right bank of the Balog River later split into Dolná Bátka, Horná Bátka and Stredná Bátka. Dolná Bátka and Horná Bátka had grown into a single built-up settlement by the mid-19th century; in 1906, they were united into one village. Dolná Bátka and part of Gemer became a centre of the Reformed Church. In the 19th century, important church events of the Reformed Church took place in Dolná Bátka and in part of Gemer.

During the first 20 years of Czechoslovakia after the First World War, Bátka remained predominantly Hungarian-speaking; the inhabitants were mainly engaged in agriculture.

Landscape

The architectural heritage includes the neoclassical manor house in Bátka, built in 1895 on older foundations. It is a single-storey, two-wing U-shaped building with side wings. Remains of a park destroyed by the village development have survived around the manor house.

Historically, the land on the left bank of the Balog stream was used by the inhabitants of Bátka from spring to late autumn as pasture for their animals.

A published cycling route passes through the village: the BRM600 Poiplie x Gemer x Hont runs through Bátka. The VN Bátka reservoir near Bátka is one of the bodies of water most frequently visited by anglers in the Rimavská Sobota area and is classified as a carp, trout and grayling water, where the MsO SRZ Rimavská Sobota offers its members extensive fishing opportunities.
