Holiday apartment in Hrachovo: Culture, Nature and Route 040
Hrachovo combines historic buildings, the protected Svetlianska cerina nature area, traces of the poet Samo Vozár and a section of the Liptov–Horehronie–Gemer Cycle Route. As a result, the village brings together cultural history, nature and cycling in different forms.
Culture
Among the older remains is the former castle of Hrachovo, built on a hill in the first half of the 15th century. Part of a late Gothic window from this castle has been preserved, built into the tower of the Evangelical church. The Renaissance manor house in Hrachovo was built in 1565 by Zsigmunt Ruthényi and Klára Palágyiová. In 1727, it was converted into a two-storey building and has retained this form to the present day. The manor house included a landscaped park with rare trees and shrubs; it also includes a landscape park dating from the first half of the 19th century.
Another historic building is the Neoclassical manor house in Hrachovo, built in 1773 by František Tihányi. The Evangelical church was built in 1808 in the Neoclassical style with Baroque elements. It contains a Renaissance altar dating from 1629, transferred from the former wooden Gothic church. The present Evangelical church also preserves a Gothic stone baptismal font from the former church. In honour of the poet Samo Vozár, Hrachovo's primary school established a memorial room containing interesting exhibits from the poet's life.
The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary was completed in 1769 and built in the Neoclassical style. Its furnishings include a painting of the Virgin Mary from the late 19th century and a stone baptismal font dating from 1830.
Nature
The Svetlianska cerina nature reserve is under the fourth level of protection and covers 15.30 hectares. It features old trees and provides habitat and a rare refuge for cave-nesting birds and other fauna.
