Abovce is located in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, in the valley of the Slaná River. The village combines a clearly identifiable landscape setting with historic buildings, community events and two different opportunities related to fishing.

Culture

The Abafiovcov Manor House is a single-storey, three-part Neoclassical building with Baroque elements on a rectangular floor plan. It was built between 1800 and 1810. The Abaffyovcov Manor House complex is located in the centre of the built-up area of Abovce. The Abaffyovcov Manor House is listed under number 932 in the register of national cultural monuments of Slovakia.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave Neo-Gothic building with a polygonal termination of the presbytery and an attached tower dating from 1907. The earlier church in Abovce is mentioned in 1745 and was built as early as the Late Middle Ages. The church façades are articulated by buttresses and pointed-arch windows. In addition, several community events are organised in Abovce every year.

Landscape

The village’s waterside area includes Štrkovisko Abovce, a private fishing pond. When entering the water area, visitors must report to the manager; if needed, they can purchase a fishing permit there. At Štrkovisko Abovce, the keeper provides visitor information and handles reservations.

Fishing in the Slaná River is also highlighted in Abovce particularly as a tourism opportunity. On the road from Rimavská Seč towards Abovce, a sign and a banner on the right-hand side point to Štrkovisko Abovce.

Transport

Road II/571 passes through Abovce. Railway line no. 160 between Zvolen and Košice also runs through the village; the Abovce stop is located on this line.
