Tomášovce – History, Landscape and Trails

Tomášovce is located in the northern part of the Lučenec Basin, mostly on the right bank of the Krivánsky Stream. For travel planning, the location by the water and the landscape form can be viewed as two distinct, objective points of reference.

Landscape and Nature

The municipal territory of Tomášovce is flat to hilly and lies between 200 and 330 metres above sea level. Forest, field and water game, as well as fish, occur in the area of Tomášovce. History and Culture

The first historical mention of Tomášovce appears in a document issued by Béla IV in Zvolen on 3 August 1247. At the beginning of the 18th century, Matej Bel described Tomášovce as a wealthy and prosperous village of Count Zichy and the noble Semerovci family.

Historical local crafts included pottery and pipe making; in addition, the inhabitants cultivated their fields. Tomášovce were predominantly owned by the estates of Divín and Halič.

The building of the evangelical school in Tomášovce dates from 1622. A memorial plaque commemorates the local pastor Daniel Mazárius; it was unveiled on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his martyrdom. Another memorial plaque commemorates the victims of the First World War.

The evangelical church in Tomášovce was consecrated on 30 September 1995. It essentially stands on the site of an older church that was destroyed on 20 January 1945.

Trails and Events

At the “Beh oslobodenia” on 13 May 2023, a 23-kilometre relay race ran from Budiná via Divín, Ružiná, Podrečany and Gregorova Vieska to Tomášovce. Another form of activity was scheduled for 25 April 2026: The “Pochod po zrušenej železničnej trati” walk was intended to take place on the former Veľká Ves–Vidiná–Tomášovce railway line.

The specific distance of the race and the date of the walk provide different points of reference for personal planning without prescribing a fixed programme.

For interpreting the two details, their temporal and spatial character is also significant: the relay race is mentioned as an event on 13 May 2023 with a defined sequence of several locations, while the walk was scheduled for 25 April 2026 and related to a former railway line. From 1 June 2026, more regular service was planned on bus route 480 in Tomášovce, in the Lučenec District.
