Holiday apartment in Podrečany: manor house, churches and trails

Podrečany combines a manor house designated as a cultural monument with a Baroque chapel and a Protestant church. The village lies on the banks of the Krivánsky potok and at the northern edge of the Lučenec Basin. Historical buildings, a clearly structured landscape and several marked trails therefore come together here.

Culture

The manor house in Podrečany was built in 1893 in the Secession style, following French models, and integrated into a landscaped park. The single-storey, U-shaped building has a loggia, a terrace and rich stucco ornamentation. It is designated as a cultural monument.

The village’s ecclesiastical architecture includes the Roman Catholic Chapel of the Holy Trinity, a Baroque building from the 18th century. The Protestant church has a Classicist altar and a Classicist pulpit from the mid-19th century. It was built between 1863 and 1866, after an original chapel had been extended in 1836 and demolished around 1862.

The bells of the Protestant church also tell of different places and periods of origin: the large bell was cast in Budapest in 1890, while the small bell was cast in Trnava in 1923. Another historical reference concerns the year 1843: at that time, the inhabitants of Podrečany engaged not only in agriculture but also in the home production of pipes.

Landscape

The terrain of Podrečany ranges from 204 to 602 m above sea level. The entire area faces southeast and is protected by mountain ridges to the west. These geographical details describe the village’s landscape setting as well as its location on the Krivánsky potok.

A distinctive landscape formation is the lake of the former mine. Flooding of a former magnesite mine in Podrečany, ongoing since 1998, has created a lake of approximately 10 ha with a water depth of about 97 m. The lake of the former mine is surrounded by densely vegetated slopes and has greenish-coloured water.

Things to do

The blue hiking trail no. 2632 Podrečany–Tuhár–Polichno–Bralce passes through Podrečany and is 18 km long. For cyclists, the 117-km Novohradská cyklomagistrála runs through the village; its route leads from Detva via Podkriváň, Divín and Lučenec. In addition, the blue cycling route Mučínska jaskyňa–Rapovce–Lučenec–Ružiná–(Látky), 17 km long, passes through Podrečany.

The range of routes also includes the northwestern cycling circuit of the city of Lučenec, which is 43 km long in total. The active tourist association of Podrečany regularly organises ascents of Sedem chotárov.

Every year towards the end of the summer holidays, Podrečany also hosts the volleyball tournament „O pohár starostu obce“.

Connections

Podrečany is connected to Lučenec by rail. There is also a bus connection with Lučenec. Both transport links form part of the described connection between the village and the city.
