Nature

The geological significance of Rapovce can be described particularly precisely by referring to the borehole there. It reaches a final depth of 1,501.2 m. At a depth of 775 m, the borehole encountered Mesozoic limestone from the Middle to Upper Triassic. Rapovce is so far the only place in the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark where Mesozoic rocks have been confirmed. The final depth and the specific encounter at 775 m therefore identify two separate points in the borehole profile: the total depth reached and the geological layer encountered by the borehole at that point.

The protected natural area includes the Horný tok Ipľa protected area, which also covers the cadastral territory of Rapovce. It is a linear protected area along a watercourse with adjoining riverside vegetation. Much of the area lies within the Poiplie Natura 2000 site and connects to the Stredný tok Ipľa protected area. Its linear orientation follows the watercourse; the adjoining riverside vegetation is expressly part of the protected area described.

Culture and History

The Kostol sv. Martina church in Rapovce was built in 1764. It was remodeled in 1854 and 1895. During the Second World War, the church was severely damaged; only the enclosing walls and the main façade survived. Its building history thus combines an origin in the 18th century, later remodeling and the significant effects of wartime destruction. The sequence of construction, remodeling and war damage describes the surviving historic substance over several points in time.

Another historic building is the originally Neoclassical Kúria Rapovce manor house. It dates from 1768 and was remodeled in 1889 and 1909. The manor house is in very good condition and serves as a Roman Catholic parish house. Alongside the church, this is a second named building in the village whose present-day function has been preserved.
