Nature

The Točnica stream flows through Točnica. Its meandering course, with remnants of an old oak forest, is designated as a protected natural feature because of its high biological and aesthetic value. Another named natural feature is a stork's nest on a post, which is considered an annual attraction in Točnica.

Culture

Several buildings and memorials give Točnica a clearly recognizable cultural profile. The village is home to a Neoclassical Protestant church dating from 1806. The former Protestant school building from 1770 is one of Točnica's cultural monuments. A newly built Catholic church dating from 2008 stands next to it. A memorial plaque commemorating the poet Koloman Banšell was unveiled in Točnica in 1969.

The wooden bell tower is also one of the village's distinctive landmarks: it was made in 1791. According to the school chronicle, the bell tower was moved to its present location on wooden rollers in 1873. Traditional occupations of the inhabitants of Točnica included wheelwrighting and cooperage. Točnica is also the birthplace of the poet Koloman Banšell, whose name is thus connected both with the history of the village and with a specific memorial.

The Protestant church in Točnica houses an organ built in 1912 by Rieger Ottó – Budapest, which has been preserved without later alterations. It is currently not operational.

History

Traces of human settlement in Točnica date back a long way. A hillfort of the Kyjatice culture from the Bronze Age was discovered in Točnica. Točnica is also recorded as a settlement site of the Late Neolithic, dating to around 6,000 BC. The site is likewise recorded as a settlement site of the Middle Eneolithic, dating to around 4,000 BC. These designations preserve both the respective prehistoric period and its approximate chronological classification.

Festivals and customs

Annual customs in Točnica include erecting and felling the maypole, as well as a Midsummer bonfire. Both events are identified as regular parts of the annual cycle. In addition, an annual goulash-cooking competition adds a culinary occasion to the local festival culture.

Every year, October is observed in Točnica as a month of appreciation for older people. Alongside the seasonal customs, the calendar therefore also includes a recurring occasion expressly dedicated to older people.
