Čamovce is located in the eastern part of the Cerová vrchovina, in the valley of the Čamovský potok. The village combines a notable geological character with forests, designated landscape areas, historic buildings and paths through the surrounding area.

Nature

The cadastral territory of Čamovce consists of sandstones and young basalt scoria. It is forested with oak, beech and black locust forests. The Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area extends into the cadastral territory of Čamovce. In addition, the Cerová vrchovina – lesné biotopy (SKUEV0357) area includes the cadastral territory of Čamovce. Čamovce is one of the Slovak municipalities belonging to the Novohrad Geopark.

Geology

The geological structure can be observed particularly precisely at the Čamovský kameňolom quarry. The outcrop exposes the entire thickness of a basalt flow. In the immediate subsurface, river gravels of the Belina Beds occur, with obliquely bedded sandstones of the Jalovské Beds beneath them. The Čamovský kameňolom quarry is considered the most representative outcrop of a lava flow in the Cerová vrchovina.

Getting Around

On the Fiľakovo–Belina–Hajnáčka hiking route, a mown meadow in the valley of the Čamovský potok is designated as a waypoint. A cycling route leads through Čamovce onwards to Šurice and runs through the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area. The hiking route identifies the stream valley as a route section, while the cycling route continues through the protected landscape area to Šurice.

Culture and History

The Roman Catholic Church of Kostol sv. Anjelov strážcov is a single-nave Neoclassical building dating from 1846. The church was rebuilt in 1910 and 1946. Inside, it has a flat ceiling with a cove cornice. The oldest archaeological finds in Čamovce date from the Bronze Age.

The historic building stock also includes a Neoclassical manor house from the first half of the 19th century. The manor house is a single-storey building with a centrally placed columned portico.

Mobility

There is a bus stop in Čamovce. A railway line runs through Čamovce. Passenger trains operate from Čamovce to Lučenec and Fiľakovo.
