Holiday apartment in Vígľaš: Castle, forests and trails

Vígľaš combines a castle with fixed daily tour times, the Rohy protected area and trails for different forms of travel. At Vígľaš Castle, guided tours take place daily from Monday to Sunday at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. On weekends, there are also tours with falconers and their demonstrations. Visitors who are not staying at the castle are also allowed to enter the entrance courtyard and have the opportunity to access the defensive walls.

Culture

The village is home to a folk-style bell tower with bells dating from 1806 and 1927. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary has a compact structure with a large integrated cross and a bell tower on the front façade. Inside are a statue of the Virgin Mary by Anton Babic and stained-glass windows by Slavo Brezina.

At the eastern edge of Vígľaš, a fragment of the narrow-gauge forest railway with a displayed steam locomotive and carriages is preserved on a landscaped site. The Vígľaš–Kyslinky narrow-gauge railway was also built. The château hotel in Vígľaš is included on the list of national cultural monuments.

Nature and landscape

Vígľaš lies in the valley of the Slatina River. There are oak forests southwest and northeast of the village, while beech forests grow at higher elevations. The protected areas around Vígľaš include Rohy. In the past, measures were carried out to improve the condition of habitats and the occurrence of the rare snake's-head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris).[ [H_0014]]

Routes and activities

The 11.3 km Zámok Vígľaš route is suitable for hiking, MTB or trekking bikes, e-bikes and Nordic walking. It is designed as an easy, year-round route for individual tourism and not for mass events. This means that different forms of travel can be used on the same route without changing its designated character.

The first stage of the cycle route leads through Vígľaš and Pstruša via Stožok to Detva–Krné. It connects to several cycle paths around Poľana as well as to the Hontianska, Rudohorská and Novohradská cycling routes.

In Pstruša near Vígľaš, Masarykov Dvor offers beginners riding lessons with an instructor. Carriage rides are also available there.
