Lunca De Jos: Village Museum, Gorduna and Mountains
Culture and Crafts
The Muzeul Satului is located in the former town hall building of Lunca de Jos, a house built in 1897. The collection includes furnishings, items used for processing milk, looms, as well as numerous tools and devices used in the household. Cultural events and themed days dedicated to preserving traditions complement a visit to the museum. For such events, it is advisable to check the current event times before travelling.
A special craft stop is the musical instrument workshop in Valea Boroș. The exhibition there shows how the Gorduna, a percussion instrument carved from a single piece of wood, is made. Visitors can follow the entire production process step by step and learn how wood becomes a musical instrument. The workshop thus adds its own distinctive focus alongside the historical household and work objects of the Muzeul Satului.
Culinary Events
“Taste of Transylvania” is a recurring four-day culinary festival at Satul de Vacanță Boroș in Lunca de Jos. At the festival from 3 to 6 September 2026, the “Blind Culinary Experience” ticket includes, in addition to the full weekend ticket, an eight-course gourmet dinner. When attending the festival, the current event times should be checked before travelling.
Landscape and Mountains
The Jávárdi Zúgó waterfall is located on a section of the Jávárdi stream characterised by large rocks in the Naskalat Mountains. At this point, the water plunges 8 metres into the depths. The waterfall thus combines a clearly named section of the stream with a distinctive terrain feature and is also at the centre of the “O zi în Valea Ghimeșului” programme.
Vârful Buciului is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Lunca de Jos, while Vârful Livezii is a peak in the immediate vicinity. Muntele Făgetul Rotund is a mountain in the surroundings of Lunca de Jos, while Vârful Mare is likewise a peak in the surrounding area. The four landscape destinations therefore differ both in their names and in the designations mountain and peak. When taking trips to landscape destinations, current route conditions can be checked before travelling.
Churches and Excursion Programme
Biserica Livezi and Biserica Nădejdea are located in the surroundings of Lunca de Jos, each being a church with its own designation. Biserica Catolică Sândominic is a Catholic church in the surrounding area, while Biserica Ortodoxă Sândominic is an Orthodox church. The two Sândominic churches therefore represent different denominational designations within the same geographical setting.
The “O zi în Valea Ghimeșului” programme leads from Lunca de Jos via Valea Rece and the waterfall of the Jávárdi stream to a sheepfold. In addition to individual cultural, church and landscape destinations, it therefore follows a set sequence of stops. For such a programme, current times and, where applicable, transport schedules can be checked before travelling.
