The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is a neo-Gothic building with two towers. The church is 56 metres long and 23 metres wide; the towers reach a height of 75 metres. The two tall towers give the exterior a clear vertical emphasis. The church is more than twice as long as it is wide; the tower height also clearly exceeds the width. The sanctuary features decorative wall paintings, ornamental stained-glass windows and figurative compositions. This gives those interested in culture a range of different motifs of the same church building, both outside and inside.

Churches and stone history

The historic Szent Katalin Church was originally a fortified church. Its grounds feature a castle-like stone enclosure, two watchtowers and a sundial. The enclosure and the watchtowers reflect the defensive function of the original church in their architecture. The sundial stands as another feature on the same grounds.

The Szent Imre Chapel also stands in the Felszeg district of Ditrău, on the site of an earlier church. Its specific location in Felszeg adds another local connection to the two other sacred sites. Thus, the local sacred history extends from a fortified church to a chapel on the site of a former place of worship.

Rocks and mountains in the wider regional surroundings

The alkaline Ditrău massif in the Giurgeu Mountains features a variety of unusual minerals and rocks. Nepheline-sodalite syenite was first given the name DITROIT there. The rock name DITROIT is specifically associated with nepheline-sodalite syenite and belongs to the geological subject area of the massif. For those interested in geology, the focus is on the diversity of the massif and the name DITROIT.

The mountains Dealul Gropşoara and Poiana, as well as the peaks Vârful Mic and Răchitiş, are located in the wider regional surroundings of Ditrău. Dealul Gropşoara and Poiana are considered mountains; Vârful Mic and Răchitiş are considered peaks. The four destinations are therefore divided into two mountains and two peaks in the wider regional surroundings.

Trails for short and extended days of holiday

The natural Ditrău tourist trail is 4.5 kilometres long and runs near the Ţengheler Peak (Cengellér). With a shorter time budget, the trail length can be included in the day’s itinerary as a separate section. At 4.5 kilometres, the trail remains shorter than the Via Mariae stage.

On the Via Mariae, one stage leads from Toplița via Gălăuțaș, Sărmaș, Subcetate and Remetea to Ditrău. The Via Mariae stage covers 27.2 kilometres and has a time frame of 9 hours. The nine hours make it a long day section for planning purposes. Compared with the natural tourist trail, the stated route is considerably more extensive.
