Near Voșlăbeni, the 309-hectare ROSCI0113 Mlaștina după Luncă Natura 2000 site lies in the surroundings of Senetea. The Senetea stream runs along its northern side. The waterway names Mureș and Seneta shape the geographical classification of the village, while the Senetea stream borders the protected area on its northern side.

History

After the great fire of 1862, Mihály Borka, a farmer from Chileni, settled on the Mureș in Senetea. Historically, the small settlement of Senetea had four watermills. The Kútdombja well was historically a good source of drinking water in Senetea.

Culture

The watermill of Senetea is a river mill. It is powered by the slow-flowing water of the Mureș. As a historic monument, it belongs to category B. The restoration project for the watermill of Senetea was completed in 2021. The restored building houses a small ethnographic collection. The building also hosts numerous events and workshops.

The operation of the mill depended on the water flow. It could not operate when the water flow was low. It was operational after heavy rainfall, when the water flow increased. In spring, the same applied during the snowmelt when water levels rose. Both short-term heavy rainfall and the seasonal snowmelt were therefore crucial for operating the mill. In these details, the water level forms the direct link between the river and the use of the building.

Local traditions

At the foot of the Gurghiu Mountains, Márton Tihamér established an apiary in Senetea. The bees from this apiary collect nectar and pollen. Wild flora and melliferous plants in the mountain region of the Gurghiu Mountains serve as sources for collection.
