Discover Sândominic: Culture, Carriage Rides and Horseback Tours

A horse-drawn carriage ride begins in Sândominic. Its route leads to a sheepfold where fresh Cașcaval and sweet Urdă are sampled. The excursion thus combines a start in the village with an agricultural destination and regional products. The destination involves more than the tasting itself: the sheepfold represents the agricultural aspect of the ride, while Cașcaval and Urdă are specific regional products included in the programme.

Culture

The Márton Áron Museum honours Bishop Márton Áron. Its interactive exhibition presents his life and legacy. For young people, the museum offers educational activities about the 20th century and about the life and teachings of Bishop Márton Áron. The exhibition and the educational programme therefore focus on different aspects within the same museum. The museum combines an interactive presentation with an educational programme explicitly aimed at young people, covering topics ranging from the 20th century to the bishop’s life and teachings.

The Márton Áron Pilgrimage and Visitor Centre is also part of the cultural offering. It assists pilgrims and tourists, provides information and offers a place to rest. The centre also provides space for programmes and temporary exhibitions of the Márton Áron Museum. Its offering therefore includes both assistance and information for visitors and use for events and changing presentations.

History

The Sândominic Village Museum Collection presents a permanent exhibition in three halls. On display are tools and equipment for storing provisions, cultivation, woodworking, logging and weaving. The collection thus comprises objects from various areas of village working and economic life, from storing provisions and agriculture to wood and textiles. The three halls lead from storing provisions and cultivation through working with wood to weaving tools.

A country house near the Sândominic Village Museum Collection was built in 1774. Another furnished country house is located next to the cultural centre of the Sândominic Village Museum Collection. The surroundings of the collection therefore include both a historic country house with a documented year of construction and another house with preserved furnishings.

Nature

Hășmașul Mare can also be accessed from Bălan. Bălan lies north of Sândominic; access leads via the DN12. Thus, in addition to Sândominic as a starting point, the northern town of Bălan is also connected with access to Hășmașul Mare. The geographical connection between the two places is further defined by Bălan’s location north of Sândominic and the route via the DN12.

Things to Do

Prior registration is required for the horseback tours; booking three to four days before the planned date is recommended. The horseback tour is recommended for experienced riders and follows the Sândominic–Pásztorbükk–Luka reze route.

At midday, the horseback tour includes a visit to a sheepfold as well as a cheese and Urdă tasting. The riding section and the stay at the sheepfold are therefore part of the same tour, as are the tastings of cheese and Urdă. The route connects Sândominic with Pásztorbükk and Luka reze; at the same time, registration, advance booking and the recommended riding level are stated as fixed elements of the tour information.
