Pietrele Roşii above Tulgheş

The Pietrele Roşii massif rises above the municipality of Tulgheş. It consists of a clearly defined limestone rock formation with a maximum elevation of 1,215 metres. From there, you can enjoy views of the surrounding area. The Pietrele Roşii nature reserve covers 10 hectares within the administrative area of the municipality of Tulgheş. In Tulgheş, the 1,215-metre-high limestone formation and the ten-hectare protected natural area bring rock and protected natural surroundings together directly.

Access to Pietrele Roşii is via the Prisecani forest road, which meets the DN15 at kilometre 223+400. Access on foot is possible via the marked trail; the forest road can also be travelled by an off-road vehicle. This means that the mode of transport can already be decided before the excursion when planning the day. Those travelling on foot should plan to use the marked trail; those taking the forest road need an off-road vehicle.

A full day of hiking at Vit-havas

Day hikes to Vit-havas are organised in Tulgheş. The summit is 1,609 metres high. The one-day duration gives this excursion its own timeframe within the day. Anyone including Vit-havas in a trip through Tulgheş can plan it as a separate hiking day. The excursion should be scheduled according to its one-day duration.

Mineral springs in the municipality

Those interested in geology can examine the mineral springs in Tulgheş according to their composition. There are 30 mineral springs in the municipality; 11 of them have been recorded and inventoried. These 11 springs have a high iron content, a sulphated character and medium mineralisation.

Wooden church, mill and local history

Tulgheş developed after the 17th century, particularly during the 19th century, as the local trans-Carpathian routes were altered. The wooden church of “Arhanghelii Mihail şi Gavril” in Tulgheş was built in 1828. The “Moara de apă și joagărul Olar Gheorghe” complex in Tulgheş was designated a historic monument under code HR-ll-m-B-12991. The “Moara de apă și joagărul Olar Gheorghe” watermill was built of wood in 1875 and is still operational.

Next to the DJ127 in Tulgheş stands a monument to the Romanian heroes of the First World War. The lime kiln at Valea Frumoasă dates from the 18th century. Traditional farming and wood processing are practised as local activities in the Tulgheş area.
