Costinești by the Sea: Beach, Culture and Holiday Apartment

Costinești Beach hosted the first edition of the Beach, Please! Festival in 2022. The event celebrated its fifth edition in 2026; Yeat returned to Costinești after his performances in 2024 and 2025.

Coast and Landscape

The administrative area of the Costinești municipality overlaps with the Natura 2000 site ROSCI0273 Zona marină de la Capul Tuzla and the Natura 2000 Special Protection Area for birds ROSPA0076 Marea Neagră. The Costinești municipality is designated as a tourist resort of national interest. The Costinești Faleza stretches for approximately 1.5 kilometres. Those who want to experience the coast actively can practise water sports, go on cycling tours or walk by the sea along the Faleza. With its approximately 1.5-kilometre route, the Faleza thus brings together several explicitly mentioned ways of spending time by the sea: water sports, cycling tours and walks are found here as distinct activities.

Lake Costinești lies in the centre of the resort between the main access road DC6, Strada Tineretului and the main beach. The lake beside the Obelisk is used for excursion boats and leisure boats. The lake thus also has its own role in the town centre: in addition to its location between the named roads and the main beach, it is used for excursion boats and leisure boats. Plaja Tineretului lies between the Marea Neagră Restaurant and Club Mega Discoteca. Plaja Pescăruș is a wild beach in the southern part of the Costinești resort. The beach in Golful Francezului is a wild beach south of the Costinești resort, behind Hotel Forum. At this beach, the entry into the sea is steep, while the beach itself is narrow.

History and Landmarks

The present-day Obelisk in Costinești was inaugurated on 3 June 2006 and is 18.5 metres high. The Obelisk is the most important tourist attraction in the Costinești resort. The ship Evangelia was launched on 28 May 1942. On 15 October 1968, the ship ran aground about 1.5 nautical miles from the northern beach of the Costinești resort, in a section of natural cliff coast called “Golful francezilor”.

Churches and Traditions

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Costinești was consecrated on 22 June 2003. Its patronal feast is celebrated on 24 June, the Feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. The monastery church of “Sfânta Elena de la Mare” preserves relics of the Holy Martyrs Zotic, Atal, Camasie and Filip of Niculițel. In the village of Schitu in the Costinești municipality, the “Sfânta Elena de la Mare” Monastery was rebuilt; the foundation stone for the new monastery complex was laid on 14 May 1996.
