Olimp: Beach, Sea Views and Culture

Olimp Beach lies between the village of 23 August and the resort of Neptun. It is small and has a steep access into the water. The beach section is therefore characterised by its limited extent and the described access to the sea.

Most of Olimp’s hotel complexes are situated on a high promontory. The promontory offers panoramic views of the sea. If you plan to go for a walk, Olimp’s elevated promenade offers views of the open sea. The walk thus combines the elevated position of the promenade with views of the coast, without any further characteristics being required for this route.

History

The balneoclimatic seaside resort of Olimp was built from 1971 onwards under the direction of the architect Aron Solari Grimberg. Olimp was known for heliomarine treatments. The creation of the seaside resort is therefore one of the clearly dated features of the place, while the name of the supervising architect has been retained.

Culture

The Muzeul de Arheologie Callatis is a museum in the vicinity of Olimp. The Muzeul Marinei Române Mangalia is also a museum in the vicinity of Olimp. Mânăstirea Sfânta Elena de la Mare is a monastery in the immediate vicinity of Olimp. The Biserica Ortodoxă Adormirea Maicii Domnului is a church in the immediate vicinity of Olimp. Thus, different named cultural sites stand alongside one another in the nearer and wider surroundings: a museum, a monastery and a church.

The Muzeul de Arheologie „Callatis” Mangalia is associated with the ancient fortress of Callatis. According to literary sources, the fortress was founded at the end of the 6th century BC by Dorian colonists from Heraclea Pontica. The connection to Callatis thus reaches back to antiquity and complements the more recent history of the seaside resort with a significantly earlier historical reference.

The Amfiteatru complex in Olimp comprises the Amfiteatru, Panoramic and Belvedere hotels. The three named establishments explicitly belong to this complex.

Nature

Peştera Movile is a cave in the vicinity of Olimp. Peştera Limanu is also a cave in the vicinity of Olimp. Movila Comorova is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Olimp. Dealul Comorova is likewise a hill in the immediate vicinity of Olimp. The natural destinations are therefore recorded as two caves and two hills, each with named local references.

Geographical Location

Olimp is grouped together with Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus and Saturn, as well as the spa town of Mangalia, under the name “Riviera Sud – Mangalia”. Olimp is connected by road via the DN39. This road is also designated as European route E87. The regional designation and the two road names thus provide the documented geographical classification of the place.

Activities

There is a mini-golf course in Olimp between Hotel Arad and Restaurant Perla. Its location is therefore defined by two specifically named reference points within the town.

NAUTIC FUN BLACK SEA SRL was authorised to operate nautical leisure activities in Olimp I, sub-sector 2, Constanța (Olimp). The authorisation covered motorised and non-motorised boats. The permit certificate bore the number 00134. It was dated 25 July 2023. In addition to walking along the promenade and the mini-golf course, a nautically oriented leisure activity involving both types of boats and documented by date is therefore recorded.
