Discover Venus: Beach, Lacul Venus and Water Sports

Venus is arranged around the artificial Lacul Venus lake. Venus Beach is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and up to 200 metres wide; three deep bays divide it into narrow sections. At the beach, the water remains only knee-deep for several dozen metres from the shore. Among the seaside resorts along the coast, Venus has the largest green area.

Nature

Southwest of Venus lies the Mlaștina Hergheliei nature reserve, a 98-hectare nature reserve classified as a mixed reserve. The protected area southwest of Venus comprises open water areas, marsh vegetation and reed beds. Sulphurous hypothermal mineral springs originate within the Venus resort area. Thus, in the surroundings of the resort, open landscape elements of the protected area meet the distinctive springs within the resort itself.

Water and Leisure

Water sports such as yachting, windsurfing and pedal boating can be enjoyed in Venus. Recreational activities such as pedal-boat rides are available on Lacul Venus. Nautical leisure activities in Venus also include parasailing, kitesurfing, banana boat rides and jet skiing. Scuba-diving courses are offered in Venus. Excursions at sea by various boats are also among the activities available there. The range of activities therefore includes trips on Lacul Venus, various nautical activities and excursions at sea. This area is complemented by scuba diving, for which dedicated diving courses are offered in Venus.

Architecture and History

Venus was designed and built in the early 1970s. Most hotels in Venus bear female names from Roman mythology or names of flowers. The Raluca Hotel in Venus is a circular four-storey building with a Japanese garden laid out in its centre. At the Vulturul, Cocorul and Pajura high-rise buildings, the floor plans resemble a spider; the rooms are arranged radially around a central core and are inclined at different angles in relation to it. This means that the architectural design is evident both in individual buildings and in the unusual floor plans of several high-rise buildings.

Surroundings

The Herghelia Mangalia is located in the immediate vicinity of Venus, approximately 3 kilometres away. It specialises in breeding Arabian thoroughbreds and offers public presentation tours, equestrian shows and riding lessons on its own racetrack.

Getting There

The road from Constanța to Venus follows DN39/E87; before Mangalia, a turn-off leads directly to the resort. Venus does not have its own railway station. The resort can be reached by train on the Constanța–Mangalia railway line via the Neptun stop or Mangalia railway station; from there, continue by minibus or taxi. There are therefore two possible destinations along the railway line for travelling by train, with onward travel by minibus or taxi from either one.
