Valea Sălciilor: Landscape, Church and Cultural Centre
Nature and Location
Valea Sălciilor lies on the left bank of the Nișcov between Haleș and Grăjdana. The landscape combines foothills covered with vineyards and orchards with the fertile plain of Buzău County. Riverbanks, hills and plain therefore jointly form the geographical character of Valea Sălciilor. The transition between the vegetated elevations and the fertile plain gives the place a clearly defined landscape character that is closely connected with the course of the Nișcov.
Roads and Motorsport
The county road DJ 100 H runs through Valea Sălciilor along the route between Mizil and Vernești. In the regional context of Valea Nișcovului, the proposed tourist route follows county road DJ 100H through Tisău and can end at the “Fântâna lui Mihai Viteazul” monument in Măgura. The route through Valea Sălciilor, Tisău and to this possible endpoint in Măgura forms part of the regional road and route network of Valea Nișcovului.
A homologated motocross track is located between Valea Sălciilor and Izvoranu. The motocross facility is regarded as a starting point for motorcycle excursions. The regional championship round of the motorcycle federation, the Cupa “Dumitru Gheorghe” competition, was also scheduled to take place in Valea Sălciilor on 12 and 13 September 2025. Thus, the facility for motorcycle excursions and the competition scheduled for those dates are both part of the same motorsport context.
Church and Historical Traces
The historic church of the village forms part of Valea Sălciilor’s sacred history. Since its original foundation, it has continuously been a parish church and not a monastery church. The history of the wider sacred surroundings also includes the vanished Miluiți hermitage (Valea Sălciilor), which was located in the territory of the village of Miluiți in the commune of Tisău, Buzău County. The sacred traces thus extend from the permanently existing parish church to a hermitage that has since disappeared.
The church’s construction history also extends beyond a single point in time: a wooden predecessor of the Valea Sălciilor church was moved from Bîscenii de Jos to Miluiți in 1768. This relocation is associated with a specific date, as well as with the origin of the wooden predecessor church and its later location in Miluiți.
Culture in the Village
The cultural centre of Valea Sălciilor is located in a former village school. It has three rooms containing valuable objects, some of which were donated by villagers in memory of their parents or grandparents. The former school building and the personal keepsakes give the cultural centre an explicitly rural historical connection. Some objects originate from the residents’ family memorabilia, while the rooms together make up the centre’s collection.
At the first edition of the “Night of Museums in the Villages”, the cultural centre of Valea Sălciilor was among the venues in Buzău County. The centre thus combines its location in the former village school, its three rooms containing valuable objects and its participation in this regional event format.
