Trails and Landscape

There are 12 tourist routes in the Cislău area. The picturesque surroundings of Cislău include running waters, gentle hills, lakes, and deciduous and coniferous forests. The area thus combines a variety of named trails with a landscape where bodies of water, open hills, and different types of forest appear side by side.

Several marked tourist routes lead from Cislău to the ruins of Doamnei Neaga Monastery. One of these routes leads from Vf. Seciu via the “Valea Zidului” trail to the ruins. The route thereby states its starting point, course, and historical destination in a continuous sequence. In 1588, Doamna Neaga had a monastery built in a clearing not far from the village of Buda-Crăciunești. The monastery ruins still bear this name today as the specific destination of the marked routes. Thus, a named route and the history of the monastery’s foundation meet at this place.

Churches and Monuments

The ensemble of the “Nașterea Maicii Domnului” Church is located in Cislău at Strada Culturii 46. It is dated to 1749.

In Buda-Crăciunești, in the municipality of Cislău, stands the clay-plastered wooden church “Înălțarea Domnului”. It was built in 1791 and, together with its bell tower, is a historic monument. Since 1936, the mortal remains of Doamna Neaga have rested in this church. She was the wife of Prince Mihnea Turcitul. The name Doamna Neaga thus appears both in the history of the monastery founded in 1588 and in the tradition of the church in Buda-Crăciunești.

The old church in Buda-Crăciunești has been undergoing conservation for several years; access is restricted.

Stud Farm and Festivals

Cislău Stud Farm was established in 1884 on the former lands of Mitocul Călugăresc in Cislău. It breeds and promotes Thoroughbred and Gidran horses. The historic foundation on the former lands and the horse breeds named to this day are among the stud farm’s defining details.

The Christmas carol festival and competition “Colindele Cislăului” take place on December 22. Since 2005, they have been organized by the Cislău Municipality and the Cislău Local Council.

The folklore festival “Legendele Cislăului” is usually organized on the first Saturday in September. The local authorities host it together with the Buzău County Council and the Buzău County Centre for Culture and Art. Thus, both the December date and the usual September date are recorded as fixed event details in Cislău’s annual calendar.
