Discover Chiojdu: Trails, Culture and Nature

A marked trail leads from Bâsca Chiojdului to the Trovanții din Chiojdu. Along the way, you cross a metal bridge over the Bâsca River. The trail is easy to moderately difficult and takes 60–90 minutes.

Hiking

The BA hiking trail connects the village of Chiojdu with the Trovanţii De Chiojdu and climbs the western slope of the hill of Chiojdu. It has an elevation gain of approximately 300 m and takes about 1–1.5 hours.

The Casa cu Blazoane–Lacul Vulturilor route is 29 km long and runs exclusively along communal roads or forest tracks. The Casa cu Blazoane–Tabla Buții connection leads from the Munții Siriu mountains to the Munții Ciucaș mountains.

The La Șipot waterfall is located in the area of the municipality of Chiojdu, on the border with Prahova County and along one of the paths leading up to Lacul Vulturilor.

The routes described therefore lead from the village and the Bâsca River over the hill of Chiojdu and into the aforementioned mountain ranges. Their destinations are called Trovanții din Chiojdu, Trovanţii De Chiojdu, Lacul Vulturilor and Tabla Buții.

Culture and History

Casa cu Blazoane is a historic monument of national importance and bears the registration code BZ-II-m-A-02383.

The building was erected in the mid-18th century by the Izbășoi, free peasants with extensive landholdings. In 1823, Casa cu Blazoane was enlarged.

A replica of Casa Codescu was built in 1936 in the “Dimitrie Gusti” Village Museum in Bucharest.

Casa Codescu stands on a massive foundation made of river-stone masonry, which houses the cellar and the tool room.

The traditional farmsteads in Chiojdu consist of a dwelling house with a cellar and outbuildings for storing fruit and wine.

The building history thus includes both Casa cu Blazoane as a historic monument and Casa Codescu with its river-stone foundation, cellar and tool room. The farmsteads complement this description with dwelling houses, cellars and outbuildings for fruit and wine.

Nature

Pădurea cu tisă lies at the foot of the Munții Monteoru mountains and is a protected forest-type nature reserve.
