Culture

Casa Vergu-Mănăilă is a preserved feudal building from the 18th century in Buzău and was first documented in 1794. The building combines an old folk architectural style with the Brâncovenesc style. Since 1976, Casa Vergu-Mănăilă has housed the Ethnography and Folk Art Collection, a department of the Buzău County Museum.

At the Buzău County Museum, the exhibition “Ocolul lumii pe jos. Povestea celor 497 perechi de opinci” presents cultural heritage associated with Romanian globetrotter Dumitru Dan and displays 497 pairs of opinci made by folk-art craftswoman Doina Mușat. Interactive storytelling lessons entitled “Călătorie pe glob” are held regularly as part of this exhibition. Craft workshops entitled “Semne tradiționale cusute” are also held there regularly.

The telephone collection of the Buzău County Museum comprises more than 300 telephones of Romanian and foreign origin, including devices from Germany, France, Belgium and the USSR. The collection illustrates the history of the telephone chronologically and the role of this invention in people’s lives. All the items were restored using original components and are in working order.
