Nature and Hiking

Victoria connects several specific starting points and destinations for days in the Făgăraș Mountains. The Victoria–La Șipot hiking trail reaches La Șipot at an altitude of 1,470 metres. A route marked with a blue triangle then continues to Cabana Podragu. The officially approved TR hiking trail connects Victoria with Șaua Podragului via Cabana Turnuri and Cabana Podragu. These routes therefore focus on named huts, passes, and mountain destinations as central elements of hike planning.

Another route begins in Valea Radului and leads via Poiana Hârtop and Șaua Hârtop to Culmea Babei. It is described as a five-hour loop. When preparing for hikes, current trail conditions and, where applicable, the conditions of the respective route can be checked. A tourist information centre has also been established in Victoria to advise visitors in the Făgăraș Mountains.

The peaks of La Steghie, Tărâţa, Puntea Oii, and Hateganu are located in the surroundings of Victoria. These named mountain destinations complement the hiking trails described with additional points in the city’s surrounding landscape.

History

Victoria’s origins are connected with the construction of a factory for producing explosive powders, which began in 1938. The early buildings are also part of this historical picture. They followed a Soviet model with spacious, high rooms and only two storeys. Factory history and architecture thus point to two different yet interconnected aspects of the city’s early development.

Culture and Events

Sacred destinations in the surroundings of Victoria include Sambata Monastery. The nearby area also contains the Parohia Ortodoxă Română Victoria church and the Biserica Ortodoxă Sfântul Ilie church. The Mânăstirea Ortodoxă Brâncoveanu monastery is likewise located in the surroundings of Victoria. For those interested in culture, these churches and monasteries provide specific destinations alongside the hiking routes.

The Festival de Jazz Victoria began in 2009 and takes place at the beginning of December each year. In September, Zilele Orașului Victoria is celebrated with artistic and sporting events. Casa de Cultură Victoria is currently suspending its public activities during renovation work; its events programme is to be published as soon as the premises are available again. Sport

Victoria’s municipal sports complex has a natural-grass football pitch, an athletics track, and a handball court. In addition, the seasonal installation of an ice rink in Victoria is described as a tradition. The sports complex and the ice rink therefore represent different forms of sporting activity, while the events also combine artistic and sporting programme items.
