Moieciu de Jos between Cascades and Cycling Routes

Nature

The Cascadele Moieciului bio-geological protected area is located on the road between Moieciu de Jos and Moieciu de Sus. On the banks of the Pârâul Turcu, two watercourses emerge from a rock face and plunge down as cascades 15–20 m high. The stream, rock face and waterfalls shape this section between the two Moieciu villages. The cascades thus link the distinctive natural features of the Pârâul Turcu with the road between the two villages.

Location

Moieciu de Jos is located on the DN 73, about 30 km from Brașov. The DJ 112F connects Moieciu de Jos with Cheia and Moieciu de Sus. The DN 73 and the DJ 112F therefore represent two different road connections: one runs via Moieciu de Jos towards Brașov, while the other connects the places mentioned.

Information

In the vicinity of Moieciu de Jos, the tourist information centre in Bran provides information for the Bran–Moieciu–Fundata area. Tourists can also obtain brochures, maps and travel guides there. When visiting a tourist information centre, current opening hours should be checked in advance. This is particularly advisable if the visit is to be combined with a cycling tour or an excursion to the cascades.

Cycling

Cycling Route 7 forms a loop from Zărnești via Măgura, Peștera and Moieciu de Jos, returning via Măgura to Zărnești. Route 7 is classified as moderately difficult and has a very slight gradient. It follows the Pârâul Turcu to the end of Moieciu de Sus. The circular route therefore connects the named places of Zărnești, Măgura, Peștera and Moieciu de Jos with the section along the Pârâul Turcu to the end of Moieciu de Sus. On a circular route, the starting point and the return to the starting point form part of the same route plan.

Another cycling route is called Moieciu de Jos–Moieciu de Sus–Valea Băngăleasa and is approximately 12 km long each way. It starts at the town hall of Moieciu de Jos. From this starting point, it leads via Moieciu de Sus to Valea Băngăleasa. After Moieciu de Sus, the route continues for approximately 2 km through the forest on a forest track. At least on the paved section, the route can be ridden by families using any type of bicycle. The starting point, route length, surface and gradient are separate planning considerations when preparing a cycling tour. A classification as moderately difficult and a very slight gradient describe different characteristics of a route and can be considered separately. For routes with forest or forestry track sections, the surface is also part of the preparation; before setting out, current route conditions and relevant information for the individual sections should be checked.
