The Evangelical fortified church of Ghimbav is a Gothic basilica that was created in the 15th century through the reconstruction of an earlier Romanesque building. In the Gothic interior, ornamental floral paintings from 1902 cover the walls and vaults.
Culture
The Orthodox Church of “Sfânta Treime” in Ghimbav was built in 1780 from rubble stone and bricks. The community members contributed to its construction; the merchant Ioan Boghici from Brașov also made a contribution. The church tower is 15 metres high and was completed in 1830. Fragments of the original wall paintings have been preserved on the interior walls.
If you are studying the construction history, you can record the years, architectural forms and materials mentioned in your own travel documents. The names of both churches can also be written down unchanged when preparing your personal cultural priorities.
The Zilele Ghimbavului celebrates local traditions and customs. The festival takes place every year on the first weekend after the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul.
The Ghimbășel River runs through Ghimbav and gave the town its Romanian name. The name of the watercourse is therefore one of the explicitly mentioned local references that you can record for your personal travel planning.
