Tărlungeni: Ciucaș, Zizin and Circular Route
Landscape
Tărlungeni lies at the foot of the Ciucaș Massif.
The municipality is home to the distinctive Piatra Laptelui ridge.
The protected Ciucaș area offers visitors the opportunity to observe rare wild animal and plant species.
These species also include some considered endemic to the region.
The massif, ridge and protected area represent different landscape features around Tărlungeni. The circular route adds notable stops between the lake, gorge and high point.
Circular Route
The circular route between Tărlungeni and Șaua Teslei begins in the village of Tărlungeni.
It forms a loop between these two places.
The circular route passes by Lacul Tărlung-Săcele.
Its course also leads through the Cheile Babaruncăi.
Below Vf. Piatra Dudului, the circular route reaches its highest point at 1,368 metres.
The route therefore connects the starting point in the village with Lacul Tărlung-Săcele, the Cheile Babaruncăi and the highest point mentioned below Vf. Piatra Dudului. The names also make the course of the loop geographically comprehensible.
Culture and History
The Church of the Holy Trinity, Biserica Sfânta Treime, is located in the village of Zizin.
It was built in the 18th century and is among the historical monuments of Tărlungeni Municipality.
A traditional 19th-century house is also located in the village of Zizin.
This house is likewise among the historical monuments of Tărlungeni Municipality.
The Căsuţa Amintirilor village museum is located in Zizin.
It houses archival photographs, elements of national dress and household objects collected from Romanian, Csángó and Roma residents.
The local history of Tărlungeni includes a dispute with Prejmer, documented on 4 November 1484, over the use of the water of the Tărlung River.
Călușarul is among the folk dances currently representative of Tărlungeni.
Boricza is also among these currently representative folk dances.
Tărlungeni is part of the historic Șapte Sate and the wider Țara Bârsei.
Together with the Bran region as well as Făgăraș and Sibiu, these areas were referred to as “mocănești”.
The hammer-operated fulling mill known as “piua cu ciocane”, belonging to the Beșchea family of Tărlungeni, is preserved at the Săcele Ethnographic Museum.
The cloth press known as “teascul de presat dimia”, also belonging to the same family, is preserved there as well.
During the interwar period, Zizin was classified as a spa resort with thermal springs.
Zilele Tărlungeniului is assigned to the last Sunday in July as a local celebration or tradition.
The cultural references thus range from religious buildings and traditional homes to museum collections, named folk dances and historical equipment. Zizin preserves several distinct points of reference within the municipality, while the two pieces of equipment belonging to the Beșchea family are now preserved at the Săcele Ethnographic Museum.

Getting There
RATBV metropolitan route 530 was established between the Gemenii area in Brașov and Pod Zizin in Tărlungeni.
It runs via DJ103B and DJ103A.
The county road DJ103A on the Brașov–Tărlungeni–Zizin–Purcăreni route is considered the access route to the Punctul fosilifer Purcăreni fossil site.
Several place and road references therefore coexist for orientation within the municipality: Gemenii, Pod Zizin, Brașov, Zizin and Purcăreni, as well as DJ103B and DJ103A. The connection and access to the fossil site are each linked to these specific names.
