Rupea: Discover Castles, Churches and Basalt Formations

A market takes place in Rupea every Friday. Its history has been documented since 1434 and was reconfirmed in 1589 by a document issued by Prince Sigismund Báthory. Culture

The evangelical church of Rupea dates from the 15th century and continues to serve as a parish church. Its Baroque altar dates from 1709. Depictions of the Apostles Peter and Paul are part of this altar. The church also preserves a valuable collection of Oriental carpets.

Cetatea Rupea is divided into the upper, middle and lower castles. Each of these complexes has its own ring of walls. The three rings of walls each correspond to a different historical period. The castle complex therefore offers three designated areas whose historical classification is preserved in the respective ring of walls.

The Gheorghe Cernea Ethnographic Museum in Rupea offers exhibitions. They can help visitors understand the lives of the inhabitants of the surrounding region over the past thousand years. Nature

Stânca bazaltică de la Rupea is the westernmost occurrence of the basalts of the Perșani Mountains. The occurrence lies in isolation within the Tertiary formations of the Transylvanian Basin. The name refers to the basalts of the Perșani Mountains, while the geological location is specified as being within the Transylvanian Basin.

Via DN 13 between Brașov and Sighișoara, Stânca bazaltică de la Rupea can be reached as far as kilometre 66. From the centre of Rupea, an access road approximately 500 metres long leads uphill. The road reaches an altitude of 579 metres. Access therefore includes both the road section up to kilometre 66 and the approximate length of the route from the town centre.
