Holiday apartment in Imperia: Nature, Trails and Culture

In the Province of Imperia, coastal landscapes, river mouths, forests, mountain meadows and historic sites meet. This transition between the different landscapes is particularly evident along the visitor trails in the protected areas, on the routes into the Ligurian mountains and at the cultural sites in the surrounding towns.

Nature

Along the visitor trail of the SIC T. NERVIA, visitors can see riparian woodland and a partially flooded reed bed. The trail also leads to a lagoon-like bend at the river mouth where numerous birds gather. The mouth of the Torrente Nervia is the only partially preserved coastal wetland in the Province of Imperia. Both Mediterranean and Arctic-alpine plant species occur in the SIC M.TORAGGIO – M. PIETRAVECCHIA. In this area, the Toraggio-Pietravecchia mountain group in Parco Alpi Liguri is one of the botanically significant landscape areas.

The visitor trail in the SIC M.MONEGA – M.PREARBA begins at a provincial road and initially passes through mixed woodland, later through woodland consisting predominantly of beech trees. At an altitude of 1,392 m, the trail opens up to views of the Valle Argentina and the Drego viewpoint. At Colle Garezzo, a section of the route through mountain meadows with rocks and scree is described at an altitude of 1,700 m. The Alta Valle Arroscia in the Imperia area is characterised by extensive pastures and large woodland areas.

The mountains Monte Ceppo and Carmo di Brocchi are located in the immediate surroundings of Provincia di Imperia. The peaks Monte Fenáira and Monte Carpasina are also nearby.

Getting Around

The visitor point of the SIC M.TORAGGIO – M. PIETRAVECCHIA can be reached from the coast via Val Nervia, Pigna, Castelvittorio, the S.P. 65 di Colla Langan and the S.P. 67. The route runs 20 km north to Pigna and then a further 6 km along a paved road to Colla Melosa. In Parco Alpi Liguri, hikers can follow the Sentiero degli Alpini.

The Province of Imperia has made around 30 kilometres of unpaved provincial roads available for bicycle traffic. These include the SP 2 from San Bernardo to Colle del Garezzo and the SP 76 from Colle del Garezzo to Colle Melosa. Another cycling route in the Province of Imperia leads to Monesi di Triora and then to the sea in the Prino district of Imperia. It passes through the territories of the municipalities of Mendatica, Montegrosso Pian Latte, Rezzo, Montalto Carpasio, Borgomaro, Prelà, Dolcedo and Imperia.

The Province of Imperia has signposted memorial trails and places to visit stretching from Grimaldi to Colle di Nava. They are connected with inland villages, hiking trails, military roads, fortifications and coastal beaches.

Culture

The medieval castle of Cervo houses the Museo Etnografico del Ponente Ligure. Triora preserves a medieval defensive complex with gates, arches, narrow passageways and fortified houses. Villa Grock in Imperia was opened to the public in 2010.

In the wider regional area around Provincia di Imperia are the palaces Villa Ormond and Villa Meridiana, the Nobelian Museum and the Villa Nobel palace.

Culinary Delights

Taggiasca olives originate from Taggia in the Province of Imperia and are processed into mildly tangy extra virgin olive oil.
