Culture

Kuckuckstein Castle stands on a steep rocky spur above the Seidewitz Valley. Its architecture combines medieval architecture with neo-Gothic elements. The tower is 37 metres high, and the walls are up to four metres thick. In 2021, the castle was recognised as a cultural monument of national significance.

The history of Kuckuckstein Castle includes Napoleon Bonaparte, Freemasonry, the Zu den drei Schwertern lodge, and the expropriation of the castle in the 20th century. Napoleon I visited the castle on the night of 9 September 1813. The historic Carlowitz Library returned to Kuckuckstein Castle in 2022.

On selected Sundays, Kuckuckstein Castle and its exhibition can be visited as part of guided tours and cultural events. A small café offers homemade items on visiting days. The castle can be reached by bus route 204 to the Liebstadt Markt stop; from there, it is approximately an eight-minute walk.

Nature

The Liebstadt area is characterised by attractive valleys and densely forested mountains. The southern circular hiking trail passes through higher terrain and offers recurring long-distance views across the hilly landscape of the Eastern Ore Mountains.

The Roter Busch area is home to 15 old beech trees with trunk circumferences of three to five metres.

Local

The Spindlerhof farm shop in Liebstadt-Döbra sells products from its own cultivation and production, as well as products from other producers. The farm shop offers regional products and seasonal goods for collection once availability has been confirmed.
