Culture
In the village center of Bannewitz, the Slavic circular village structure is still visible around the village square. The local heritage also includes Nöthnitz Renaissance Castle, which was built around 1630 and is associated with Johann Joachim Winckelmann's work there from 1748 to 1754. Nöthnitz Castle is surrounded by gardens, some designed in a landscape style and others laid out formally. It can be visited on certain event days and is listed as a tourist attraction in Bannewitz's cultural and events program.
Nature
The Babisnau Poplar in the Golberode district is a hiking destination, viewpoint, and protected natural monument. From there, clear views extend across the Elbe Valley, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, and the uplands toward Quohrener Kipse, Hermsdorfer Höhe, and Wilisch. The Babisnau Poplar is a rare black poplar; fewer than 200 specimens of this species exist in Saxony, and it has been protected since 1937.
History
The Eutschütz Mill was first mentioned in 1486; a reconstruction is documented for 1711. The historic Nöthnitz brewery was founded in 1619, and the Herrschaftliche Schänke in Nöthnitz was established at the same time. Historical Nöthnitz production included Bohemian beer, Munich beer, and brandy. After the First World War, Bannewitz became the site of an automobile production project; the first Pilot 6/22 PS vehicle was developed there.
Trails
Bannewitz's official hiking trails provide information about possible transport connections, places to stop for refreshments, elevation profiles, and distances, and can be combined with one another. One route leads from Bannewitz via Goldene Höhe and Hänichen to the Possendorf Windmill and back to Bannewitz. A cycling and hiking trail now runs along the former Windbergbahn railway line between Neucunnersdorf and Possendorf.
Geographical Location
Bannewitz is described as a place with good access to the A17 motorway. Dresden city center is described as reachable within a few minutes.
