Sebnitz provides access to hikes in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, characterised by rock formations, valleys, forests and panoramic views. It is also home to Borderless Trails, a cross-border mountain biking area between Saxony and the Czech Republic; the starting point is SoliVital in Sebnitz.

Those planning their stay in Sebnitz can choose to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and Crafts

Deutsche Kunstblume Sebnitz continues to produce artificial flowers by traditional handcrafting methods. This craft has been based in the city since 1834. Visitors can observe the individual steps involved in making the flowers and try their hand at it themselves during the “Selberblümeln” activity. Special guided tours are offered for visitors with mobility or visual impairments; there is also a lift and direct parking facilities for cars and coaches.

Active Activities

SoliVital in Sebnitz includes an indoor playground, a climbing hall, a soccer arena, a fitness and health area, a bowling alley, a rehearsal room and catering facilities.

Trails and Orientation

The 116-kilometre Malerweg trail crosses the national park region and offers overnight accommodation in hotels, guesthouses or at a campsite. The 105-kilometre Forststeig Elbsandstein trail leads through the Saxon Switzerland Protected Landscape Area and offers official bivouac sites and trekking huts.

In the national park region, blue markings indicate long-distance hiking trails, red markings indicate regional trails, and green or yellow markings indicate local trails. In the core zone of the national park, visitors may use only marked or signposted trails.

Culture and History

The Sebnitz Museum of Artificial Flowers and City History has more than 12,000 exhibits; the museum library contains more than 3,000 titles. The historic interiors include a weaver’s room, the office of an artificial flower manufacturer, a homeworker’s room, as well as Baroque and Biedermeier rooms.

The Historical City Tour begins at the municipal collections and leads through the historic city centre. It shows Sebnitz’s transformation from a linen-weaving settlement into a city of artificial flowers.

The municipal collections and the Africa House in Sebnitz invite visitors to explore art, culture and regional history in the museum buildings at Hertigswalder Straße 12–14. Across three floors, the municipal collections document important phases in the history of the border region and the city.

The planned Blümelpfad trail in Sebnitz is intended to connect former production sites of artificial flower manufacturing in the city centre and explain the history of the buildings and factories.

Further destinations complement the navigation: Mittelndorf, Hinterhermsdorf, Lichtenhain.
