Deutsche Kunstblume Sebnitz continues to produce artificial flowers by traditional handcrafting methods. This craft has been based in the city since 1834. Visitors can observe the individual steps involved in making the flowers and try their hand at it themselves during the “Selberblümeln” activity. The historic interiors include a weaver’s room, the office of an artificial flower manufacturer, a homeworker’s room, as well as Baroque and Biedermeier rooms.
The Historical City Tour begins at the municipal collections and leads through the historic city centre. It shows Sebnitz’s transformation from a linen-weaving settlement into a city of artificial flowers.
The municipal collections and the Africa House in Sebnitz invite visitors to explore art, culture and regional history in the museum buildings at Hertigswalder Straße 12–14. Across three floors, the municipal collections document important phases in the history of the border region and the city.
The planned Blümelpfad trail in Sebnitz is intended to connect former production sites of artificial flower manufacturing in the city centre and explain the history of the buildings and factories.
